6 Ways Paperless Signing Streamlines Healthcare Workflows

Bylined article from Stephan Herron, CEO and president, featured in Electronic Health Reporter.

For decades, healthcare providers have relied on putting pen to paper when it comes to signing off on prescriptions, discharge orders or even referrals to specialists. For patients, signatures need to be captured for reviewing and confirming care plans or after an office visit is completed. Although many hospitals and practices have made the move to some form of electronic signature solution, not everyone has adopted the technology. Enter COVID-19.

As the pandemic continues to push our nation’s healthcare system to the brink, provider organizations are ramping up efforts to implement digital, contactless consents. That includes the move to paperless workflows, something healthcare has struggled to adopt given the industry’s love-hate relationship with paper.

COVID-19: One Week of “Stay At Home” Operation and Counting

Update of March 30, 2020. Read previous posts starting with my March 24 COVID-19 update.

Today is National Doctors’ Day. Shout out to doctors and all medical professionals that are our front line in this crisis. Thank you from everyone in the “Scriptel family!”

Scriptel Corporation has now been operating under “Stay At Home” rules since March 23, 2020. There have been no new regulations or orders in the past week that might affect our ability to operate. I thought I would use this update to inform you about what Scriptel has been doing to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

We are enforcing minimum operations at our offices and are able to do this while maintaining inter-employee distancing, hand-washing and surface disinfecting rules. All shipments, both receiving and shipping, still occur at our main office address at 2178 Dividend Drive, Columbus, OH 43228. We made all expected shipments on time last week and do not expect any delays going forward.

We have successfully moved our signature pad assembly and packaging operations into “Work From Home.” This is enabled by investments that Scriptel made in its production IT tools over the past three years. Manufacturing quality control is automated and effectively managed from the cloud. As a special step for the current situation, all electronic signature pads have been getting an extra final wipe with isopropyl alcohol prior to packaging since March 16.

Scriptel Corporation will take care of its employees during this crisis. Scriptel has opted in to the Federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and will provide all employees with the COVID-19 extended sick and family leave benefits described therein. We applaud the recently passed and signed Federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES).

I am proud of our team. They have handled this growing crisis with remarkable resilience and flexibility. Investments made in the past years are proving themselves with this very smooth transition to “Work From Home”. We can maintain this condition for an extended period of time. I am happy to be able to assure our customers that Scriptel Corporation is actively implementing social distancing and doing its part to “flatten the curve” in service to our society and communities. I can also assure both our customers and suppliers that we remain in operation as a supplier to essential businesses and operations with sufficient capacity for deliveries and the same outstanding pre- and after-sales support that made Scriptel the brand of choice for electronic signature pad hardware.

Thank you, make sure that you are also implementing and exceeding social distancing recommendations in your own operations, and please stay safe and healthy.

Best regards,

Stephan Herron

COVID-19: Status following “Stay At Home” Orders

Update of March 23, 2020. Read my previous March 21 COVID-19 update.

Pursuant to the State of Ohio Department of Health Director’s Stay at Home Order of March 22, 2020, Scriptel Corporation is classified under Section 12 paragraph q as a supplier for Essential Business and Operations. Accordingly, Scriptel continues to operate while this order is in effect.

Scriptel Corporation’s operations in the State of New York also comply with the guidance given together with the New York State on PAUSE order of March 20, 2020.

Scriptel Corporation maintains constant contact with its suppliers in the State of Ohio and elsewhere, has informed them of our status and has confirmed that they are also continuing to operate and able to supply us with parts as we require. Scriptel does not anticipate any loss of capacity to supply product or support customers as a result of these orders.

To do its part in protecting our communities and implement maximum social distancing, Scriptel Corporation has gone beyond the requirements of the Ohio and New York orders and moved nearly all operations to work-from-home, including the majority of our product assembly and packaging. Scriptel will maintain, as specified in Section 13 of the Ohio order, Minimum Basic Operations at our main offices in Columbus, Ohio. All goods receipts and product shipments will continue from this location.

Additionally, all RMA activity will continue from the Columbus, Ohio main office. Scriptel Corporation will continue to support its end-users that rely on their signature pads as a critical part of their workflows with its RapidCare overnight advanced replacement service.

Scriptel Corporation is a supplier to critical services in our economy and communities, including hospitals, and we are happy to confirm that our operations will be able to continue without noticeable change for our customers, partners and suppliers.

Desktop Signature Pad Series EOL Announcement

Scriptel Retires its Original Signature Pad Product Line

COLUMBUS, OHIO (May 17, 2019) – The Desktop 1×5 and Desktop LCD signature pads are on end-of-life status and future availability is limited to existing stock. Customers have been directly informed. Recommended replacement products are the Slimline Signature Pad Series: Slimline 1×5 and Slimline LCD. The specific model numbers affected are the ST1400, ST1401, ST1500B, ST1501B and their prefix and suffix variations. The ST1500 and ST1501 were previously made end-of-life in 2017.

The respective replacement models are the ST1475, ST1476, ST1570, ST1571 and their variations.

“The Desktop series was Scriptel’s initial entry into the market for signature pads 10 years ago and it has served our customers well with the Desktop LCD having been our best overall selling product during those 10 years. Recent changes in critical electronic components availability make it difficult to guarantee future production at competitive prices for our customers and we feel that the time is right to retire the product with full support guaranteed into the future,” said Scriptel Corporation CEO Stephan Herron. “The Slimline series products are a worthy successor, with the same rugged reliability and a more ergonomic design, and are proven with more than 4 years in the market.”

Scriptel will continue to support all the Desktop series signature pads sold until the end of their 3-year warranty periods for repair or replacement and expects to have parts available for repairs even beyond that period.

For any questions about this change, please contact our sales team at (877) 848-6824 or by email at
